eu-LISA brings together representatives from Member States, EU institutions and agencies, academia and industry in Strasbourg on 9–10 September for its 2026 Industry Roundtable on Data Management.
Organised in cooperation with the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU and hosted at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, the two-day event explores how modern data management practices and innovative technologies can help public authorities manage and use data securely, effectively and responsibly.
"Data is a strategic asset for European public administrations. We need to help Member States extract as much value from it as possible, while ensuring data protection and compliance through robust data management practices and the use of innovative technological solutions", said Tillmann Keber, Executive Director of eu-LISA, welcoming participants to the Roundtable.
For eu-LISA, effective data management is central to the operation of the large-scale IT systems supporting border management, migration, asylum, justice and law enforcement across Europe. These systems process and store tens of millions of records and support hundreds of millions of searches and transactions, illustrating the scale, complexity and operational importance of the data managed by the Agency.
As data volumes grow and systems become increasingly interconnected, public administrations need to continue ensuring data quality, security, interoperability, traceability and compliance throughout the data lifecycle. At the same time, data has become essential in evidence-based policy and decision-making.
Industry, public sector and research perspectives
The programme brings together speakers from across industry, research community and the public sector.
The opening session includes contributions from Louise Jevens, Chief Information Officer at Ireland’s Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration; Marc Sulon, Head of the Interoperability and Digitalisation Unit at the European Commission’s DG HOME; Peter Lindlacher, Head of the Data and Analytics Services Division at the European Central Bank; and researchers Georgios Stavropoulos and Eleftheria Katsoura from CERTH-ITI.
On the second day, Matthias Leese, Assistant Professor for Technology and Governance at ETH Zurich, and Coen Janssen from the European Commission’s DG CONNECT contribute further perspectives on digital governance and data sharing.
Industry experts from a wide range of technology companies complement these institutional and academic perspectives by presenting emerging technologies and their application to public-sector data management challenges.
Across the two days, discussions focus on four main areas:
data governance and compliance by design
secure and scalable data architectures for the public sector
solutions for data sharing
data exploitation, analytics and AI readiness
The Roundtable examines how technological solutions and data management practices can support public administrations in making better use of data while meeting demanding requirements for security, resilience, data protection, accountability and long-term operational sustainability.
The eu-LISA Industry Roundtable, organised since 2014, provides a regular platform for dialogue and knowledge sharing between the public sector, academia and industry on technological developments relevant to the EU’s justice and home affairs domain.
