Actions

Each of the IT systems eu-LISA manages is designed to tackle different matters, such as processing visa and asylum applications, detecting irregular migration, and preventing and investigating cross-border crime and terrorism.

Each system works independently. The goal of Interoperability is to make all the systems work together as one, to enhance information sharing, thus ensuring:

  • EU law enforcement, border control, and migration authorities have fast and seamless access to data stored in all the systems for cross-checking (based on the limits defined in the respective legal bases);
  • Better detection of irregular migrants;
  • Better detection of multiple identities;
  • The data stored in the systems is handled safely and with respect for data protection, privacy and fundamental rights;
  • Services are provided efficiently while also reducing costs;
  • Enhanced internal security throughout the EU and the Schengen Area.

Main Components

  • European Search Portal (ESP) - will enable authorised users to carry out a single search and receive results from all the systems they are authorised to access;
  • Shared Biometric Matching Service (sBMS) - will allow users to more efficiently search and cross-match biometric data;
  • Common Identity Repository (CIR) - will enable easy access to biographical information about non-EU citizens, so that they can be more reliably identified;
  • Multiple Identity Detector (MID) - will help detect multiple identities with the dual purpose of ensuring the correct identification of bona fide persons and combating identity fraud;
  • Common Repository of Reporting and Statistics (CRRS) - will provide cross-system statistical data and improve analytical reporting for policy, operational and data quality purposes;
  • Central System for Yellow Link Resolution (CSLR) - will ensure discrepancies between linked data across different IT systems are flagged and resolved.
