Actions
eu-LISA has released its Outlook 2026: What’s Ahead?, outlining the Agency’s priorities and key deliverables for the coming year across the justice and home affairs domain.
Building on the Progressive Roll-out of EES
Following the progressive roll-out of the Entry/Exit System (EES) in 2025, 2026 will be marked by further important developments. The new Eurodac and ETIAS are scheduled to enter into operation, contributing to a more connected and efficient digital ecosystem supporting border management, migration and internal security.
The new Eurodac, implemented under the Recast Eurodac Regulation, will significantly expand the system’s scope. It will introduce additional identity data and facial images and connect with interoperability components to enable faster screening procedures and more reliable identification processes across Member States.
Ensuring Stable and Secure Operations
Alongside new system launches, eu-LISA will continue to ensure the stable and uninterrupted operation of existing large-scale IT systems, including SIS, VIS, EES and e-CODEX. High availability, 24/7 monitoring, and strong cybersecurity and data protection safeguards remain central to the Agency’s mandate.
Advancing Interoperability
Further progress on interoperability is planned for 2026. Continued deployment of components such as the European Search Portal, the Shared Biometric Matching Service and the Multiple-Identity Detector will allow authorised authorities to perform cross-system checks more efficiently, strengthen identity verification and help prevent identity fraud.
Investing in Innovation and Governance
The Outlook also highlights investment in cloud solutions, automation and enhanced cyber resilience, alongside strengthened governance and cooperation with Member States and EU partners. With a planned budget of €319.1 million and 477 staff members, eu-LISA will continue to support both operational continuity and the development of new digital capabilities across the EU’s justice and home affairs systems.
