The EES-ETIAS Advisory Group met on 6–7 November 2025 in Strasbourg and online – the first meeting since the Entry/Exit System (EES) entered into operation on 12 October 2025.

The Advisory Group is composed of representatives from EU Member States, Associated Countries, the European Commission, Frontex and eu-LISA, and serves as a key coordination platform for operational, technical and governance matters related to both EES and ETIAS.

EES: From Go-Live to Daily Operations

The meeting reflected on the successful entry into operation of the EES, with members commending all partners for their close cooperation and commitment during the transition weekend and beyond.

All Member States made entries on the first day of operations, with smooth performance, no critical or blocking incidents, and strong coordination between national authorities and eu-LISA’s Control Centre.

The progressive roll-out of EES is now underway, with Member States gradually deploying the system across air, sea and land border-crossing points in line with their national roll-out plans. eu-LISA continues to provide technical monitoring, operational guidance and on-site support to ensure a harmonised transition across Europe.

The Advisory Group also discussed the integration of carriers into the EES framework. Air, sea and coach carriers will play a key role in verifying, prior to departure, whether third-country travellers are subject to EES or ETIAS requirements.

ETIAS: Programme Status, Screening Regulation and Readiness

On ETIAS, the Advisory Group was briefed on recent governance meetings and guidance, reviewed the overall programme status, and discussed the implementation of the Screening Regulation.

The group also addressed technical and legal aspects with the support of the European Commission and received updates on ongoing security and business tests. All business users are expected to participate from mid-November 2025 onwards.

ETIAS remains one of the European Union’s key priorities and is expected to enter into operation by the end of 2026.
