The European Union Agency for the Operational Management of Large-Scale IT Systems in the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice (eu-LISA) received a Forbes Social Award for its innovative and inspirational initiatives in the field of public communication. The Forbes Italy awards ceremony took place on 13 September 2022, in Florence, Italy.
According to Forbes, eu-LISA is one of a very small number of award winners and stands out for its strong ethical vocation and its use of innovative communication strategies, techniques and tools. This year's event is the first edition of the Forbes Social Awards where public institutions are featured.
As the digital engine of the Schengen Area, eu-LISA is responsible for managing and promoting IT as a key success factor for the implementation of the European Union's policies in the area freedom, security and justice. Being in a driver's seat for the digitalisation's efforts of the EU's Justice and Home Affairs domain, the Agency is building an information architecture for border management and contributing to strengthening the security ecosystem.
"This acknowledgement comes as a great honour for eu-LISA, an agency devoted to serving European citizens and making Europe safer and stronger through digital technologies. eu-LISA is the Digital Heart of Schengen. And Schengen represents some of the values upon which the Union has been built, namely freedom, security and justice. I am thus very happy that our efforts – to communicate from our "digital heart" to the hearts of people in Europe – have been not only noticed, but also appreciated and recognised", said Krum Garkov, Executive Director of eu-LISA.
