eu-LISA has released its 2024 Sustainability Report, presenting a detailed overview of the Agency’s environmental, social and economic performance throughout the year. Now in its second edition, the report reaffirms eu-LISA’s commitment to transparency, good governance, and continuous improvement.
Prepared with reference to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards, the report highlights how eu-LISA’s work aligns with the objectives of the EU Green Deal and the Sustainable Development Goals, while supporting the operational management of Europe’s large-scale IT systems in the Justice and Home Affairs domain.
Key Highlights
Environmental Performance: The Agency reduced office waste by 66% and paper consumption by 42%, and introduced smart energy systems at its Tallinn headquarters. While electricity use increased due to new infrastructure and equipment, efforts to optimise consumption and measure greenhouse gas emissions more accurately are now in place. An updated Environmental Action Plan for 2024–2030 outlines 15 measurable objectives to further reduce environmental impact.
Social Responsibility: eu-LISA promoted staff well-being and sustainability through a wide range of activities, including mental health programmes, ergonomic support, and green mobility initiatives. Participation in EU-wide campaigns such as the Walking Challenge and Velomai led to a combined reduction of over 8.5 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
Operational Efficiency and Ethics: The Agency enhanced internal digital processes, streamlined procurement practices, and introduced measures to strengthen transparency and accountability. eu-LISA was awarded the CAF Effective User certificate, recognising its efforts to uphold high standards in quality management.
Forward Planning: The report outlines strategic objectives for the coming years, including strengthening environmental data collection, promoting sustainable procurement, and maintaining a safe and inclusive working environment.
Published alongside the Annual Activity Report, the 2024 Sustainability Report reflects eu-LISA’s integrated approach to operational excellence and sustainability.
