Temporary and contract staff are selected through an open recruitment procedure.
Temporary and Contract Staff
In order to access eu-LISA's open calls for Temporary and Contract Staff and submit an application, candidates are invited to use our e-Recruitment Platform.

Temporary Staff, hold many of the agency’s core posts and high level programmatic and project management functions. They constitute the major human resources of eu-LISA.
Temporary Staff are recruited by eu-LISA for:
- Operational and technical specialist posts
- Management posts
- Administration posts e.g. human resources, legal, finance and procurement
Temporary Staff are offered a five-year contract with an initial probation period of nine months. Contracts may be renewed.
Contract Staff are recruited by eu-LISA for:
- Technical experts and specialist posts
- Operational and administrative posts assigned to specific projects
Contract Staff are offered contract of varying lengths (depending on post availability) with an initial probation period. Contracts may be renewed.

Seconded National Experts
Seconded National Experts (SNEs) are staff employed by a national, regional or local public administration, or an IGO, who are seconded to the eu-LISA, so that the Agency can benefit from their high level of professional knowledge and experience.
Seconded National Experts remain in the service and receive salaries from their employers throughout the period of secondment.
The initial period of secondment is six to twenty-four months. The secondment is renewable, but the total secondment period cannot exceed four years.
Detailed rules regarding secondment of national experts within eu-LISA are described in the Management Board Decision laying down rules on the secondment of National Experts to the Agency (Decision No 2012-025 as of 28 June 2012).

Internships
eu-LISA offers paid internships for recent university graduates who are at the beginning of their professional career. Internships for university graduates are intended to enable interns to supplement their knowledge with EU policies, activities and procedures as well as those of eu-LISA.
The Agency welcomes applications from candidates with a background relating to any of the activities of the Agency.

How to apply
All our vacancies are published for a period of at least 4 weeks. They can also be found, along with vacancy notices from other EU Agencies, on EPSO and the EU Agencies Network website. The EPSO permanent call for expression of interest for Contract Staff is available on the respective EPSO website.
To apply for a position at eu-LISA:
- Visit our vacancies page and use the e-Recruitment platform. There, you will be asked to create an applicant profile where you can enter your qualifications and work experience. It is important to provide accurate and complete information, as it will affect whether you are eligible for job openings at eu-LISA.
- Be careful when entering the dates of your education and work experience – we will check them against your documents before making any job offer.
- Make sure to fill out the entire application in English.

The selection process can take a few months from the time a job is posted to when the final offer is made. We’ll keep you informed after each stage to let you know whether you’re moving forward in the process.
Steps of the selection process

1. Publication of the Vacancy Notice
All open vacancies are advertised on the eu-LISA e-Recruitment Platform and on other media channels, such as EPSO, our LinkedIn page or specialised media.

2. Submission of the Application
Candidates should apply in English through the eu-LISA e-Recruitment Platform before the deadline.

3. Eligibility Criteria Check
The eligibility of applications is checked against the criteria described in the vacancy notice. Those eligible are admitted to the selection procedure.

4. Selection Criteria Check
The applications are assessed against the selection criteria in the vacancy notice. The selection panel draws up a list of candidates to be invited to the following phase.

5. Assessment Phase
Short-listed candidates might undergo an initial assessment such as a pre-recorded interview. The final assessment phase consists of a panel interview along with a written test in the relevant area of expertise.

6. Establishment of the Reserve List
The most suitable candidates are placed on a reserve list.
Rest assured that applications are processed in due time. Below is a general timeline of the procedure. Please note that each selection follows its own process, and the timing of the steps may vary from what is stated below:
- Shortlisting: Usually within 3 weeks after the application deadline
- Written tests: Usually 2–3 weeks after shortlisting
- Interviews: Typically, 3–4 weeks after passing the written tests or at the same time
- Reserve list: Usually 2 weeks after the final interviews
Information will be provided throughout the process. Written tests are organised online and conducted simultaneously for all candidates, so please ensure availability.
Tips for applicants
Reserve lists
Candidates who succeed in the selection procedures are placed on a reserve list. This constitutes a talent pool for possible placement to meet immediate or future needs. The Agency may draw on this list to fill vacant posts of a similar nature, function group, and grade. However, being placed on a reserve list does not guarantee employment with eu-LISA.
The adopted reserve lists have a fixed validity and may be extended by the Executive Director in the interest of service.
