The No More Ransom (NMR) project is celebrating its 6th anniversary this year, with over 10 million people having downloaded its decryption tools designed for recovering 'hostage' files and over 1.5 million people successfully decrypting their devices without needing to pay the hackers.

Launched in 2016 by our sister agency Europol, the Dutch National Police, Intel Security and Kaspersky Lab, the project enables cooperation between law enforcement authorities and the private sector to help users fight ransomware.

Starting off with just four tools for decrypting several types of ransomware, in 2022, NMR offers 136 decryption tools for 165 ransomware variants. The project is backed by 188 partners from the private and public sectors, including eu-LISA. With our expanding role in the digitalisation of the EU's Justice and Home Affairs domain, the Agency is glad to be a part and support the NMR initiative.
