Europol and eu-LISA sign multi-annual cooperation plan

On 7 March 2024, Europol, the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation and eu-LISA, the European Union Agency for the Operational Management of Large-Scale IT Systems in the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice, signed an agreement to strengthen their cooperation. A cooperation plan for the period 2024-2026 was signed by Europol’s Executive Director Catherine De Bolle and eu-LISA Executive Director Agnès Diallo in The Hague.

In line with their respective mandates, the cooperation between Europol and eu-LISA contributes to further developing the provision of expertise as well as operational and technical support to the EU and its Member States.

The multi-annual plan outlines actions to share knowledge, expertise and best practices between eu-LISA and Europol. It aims to enhance bilateral cooperation in the timely implementation of the architecture of large-scale IT systems and related initiatives in the area of Justice and Home Affairs. It also sets out measures for the preparation, implementation and testing of the future interoperability architecture and for pooling resources in common research areas such as artificial intelligence or biometrics.

The cooperation between Europol and eu-LISA is underpinned by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2016. The latter is a technical elaboration of the existing MoU between the two agencies, detailing the various ways and thematic areas in which the two organisations intend to work together.
