A delegation from the European Parliament's JURI Committee visited eu-LISA Headquarters in Tallinn on 24 May 2022. The delegation was welcomed by the Deputy Executive Director and representatives of the Agency.
The visit focused on eu-LISA's most important developments last year and its priorities for 2022. One of the main topics discussed was the digitalisation of cross-border judicial cooperation in the European Union and the future development of the e-CODEX (e-Justice Communication via Online Data Exchange) system.
"The transformation in the Justice and Home Affairs area is information-driven and there is an increasing dependence on digital technology, information exchange and large-scale IT systems. In this context, for a fast digitalisation of the justice area, the added-value that eu-LISA can bring is clear. After ECRIS-TCN, e-CODEX is the next logical step in the Agency's contribution to the justice area. It is not an isolated project, but a strategic building block for the digitalisation of the justice domain. We look forward to continuing to support this digitalisation process." said eu-LISA Deputy Executive Director, Luca Tagliaretti.
One of eu-LISA's key milestones for the coming years is to take over the responsibility for the operational management of e-CODEX as well as host the Joint Investigation Teams (JITs) Collaboration Platform. For the future, there is a need for a comprehensive multi-annual roadmap for the digitalisation of Justice that connects all justice building blocks and allows stakeholders to plan ahead, together. eu-LISA looks forward to further collaboration in digital justice projects with EU partners, and improving internal security as well as judicial cooperation across Europe for the wellbeing of all its citizens.
