On 23-24 March 2022, the Management Board of the European Union Agency for the Operational Management of Large-Scale IT Systems in the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice (eu-LISA) held its 34th meeting in Tallinn.

High on the agenda is an overview of the impact the ongoing war in Ukraine is having on the IT systems managed by eu-LISA. The influx of refugees to the European Union as well as the augmented risk of cyberattacks are of particular concern to the Agency. Ensuring the uninterrupted availability of the border management systems and heightened cyber security measures are paramount in times of crisis.

The Management Board had comprehensive discussions on the planning related to the building blocks for the Interoperability architecture. Status updates on the Schengen Information System (SIS) Recast, the Visa Information System (VIS), the Entry/Exit System (EES), the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) and the European Criminal Records Information System -Third Country Nationals (ECRIS-TCN) were also presented.

In addition, all participants followed with interest an update on the state of play of legal proposals currently in preparation that will affect the work of eu-LISA.

Governance matters pertaining to the Management Board were discussed and the Agency's Security Officer, Data Protection Officer and the Head of the Internal Audit Capability gave presentations with the scope of bringing Member states up-to-speed on the latest developments in their respective fields of business.

The next eu-LISA Management Board meeting is scheduled for 22 and 23 June 2022 in Strasbourg.
