ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 37, Biometrics is a standardisation subcommittee of the Joint Technical Committee ISO/IEC JTC 1 of the International Organization for Standardisation (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), which develops and facilitates standards within the field of biometrics.

The five-day hybrid event, hosted by eu-LISA, will take place at the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences in Tallinn and will bring together more than one hundred experts from all around the world. Topics scheduled to be discussed include, amongst others, the use of state-of-the-art technics and technologies, future biometric related ISO standards and common biometric-related vocabulary to facilitate a shared stakeholder understanding.

“After three years of online gatherings, eu-LISA is honoured to welcome top experts in the field of biometrics to Tallinn. As biometrics is a key area of interest for our Agency, we are closely following the ongoing discussions and the development of relevant standards around the world. We are also taking this opportunity to present new eu-LISA initiatives, such as the preliminary work item (PWI) for a new fingermark quality metric, which aims not only to promote standardisation at international level, but also to improve the services that eu-LISA can offer,” said Luca Tagliaretti, Deputy Executive Director of eu-LISA.

The scope of ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 37 is the "Standardisation of generic biometric technologies pertaining to human beings to support interoperability and data interchange among applications and systems." The subcommittee is made up of six working groups, each of which carries out specific tasks in standards development within the field of biometrics.
