eu-LISA has published the Eurodac Annual Statistics Report 2025, providing an overview of the operational use of the Eurodac system by Member States, associated countries and Europol throughout the year.
In 2025, more than 1.1 million fingerprint data sets were transmitted to the Eurodac Central System, which supports the implementation of the European Union's asylum and migration framework by enabling the comparison of fingerprint data in accordance with the Eurodac Regulation. While the overall volume of transmissions decreased by 18% compared to 2024, Eurodac continued to play an important role in supporting cooperation and information exchange between national authorities across Europe.
More than 7 million fingerprint data sets stored in Eurodac
At the end of 2025, the Eurodac Central System stored 7.1 million fingerprint data sets, including 6.8 million related to applications for international protection and approximately 200,000 linked to irregular border crossings.
Applications for international protection remained the largest category of data transmitted to Eurodac, accounting for 686,054 data sets, or 60% of all transmissions. Data relating to persons found illegally staying in a Member State accounted for 283,879 transmissions, while 171,227 data sets concerned irregular crossings of the external borders of the Schengen area.
Supporting cooperation between national authorities
The report also highlights the continued role of Eurodac in supporting the implementation of the Dublin system through the comparison of fingerprint data. In 2025, the system generated more than 210,000 foreign hits between asylum applications, indicating cases where an individual had previously applied for international protection in another participating country.
Eurodac also recorded more than 67,000 foreign hits linking asylum applications to prior irregular border crossings and over 130,000 foreign hits involving persons found illegally staying in a Member State after previously applying for international protection elsewhere.
The five countries transmitting the highest volumes of data to Eurodac in 2025 were Italy, Germany, Greece, Spain and France, together accounting for almost three quarters of all data transmitted to the central system.
Supporting law enforcement under strict conditions
Eurodac also continued to support law enforcement authorities under the strict conditions established by the Eurodac Regulation. During 2025, designated national law enforcement authorities and Europol carried out 1,103 comparative fingerprint searches for the prevention, detection and investigation of terrorist offences and other serious crimes. These searches represented less than 0.1% of the system's annual traffic.
Eurodac and eu-LISA
Operational since 2003 and managed by eu-LISA, Eurodac is one of the European Union's large-scale information systems in the field of migration and asylum.
