Budapest, Hungary and Online – 12-13 November 2024
Today, the eu-LISA Industry Roundtable commences in Budapest, Hungary, with options for online participation. This event, titled 'EU Justice and Home Affairs in the Age of AI: Fostering Innovations and Mitigating Risks,' is organised in partnership with the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The Roundtable brings together industry representatives, EU institutions, and Member States' authorities to discuss the challenges and opportunities linked to using AI-based solutions in the Justice and Home Affairs sector, especially with the introduction of the new AI Act.
Event Highlights
Over one and a half days, the event features five four sessions with expert presentations and discussions. Attendees can expect:
- Regulatory Updates: Insights from Yordanka Ivanova, Policy Officer at DG CNECT, Aleksandra Oczko-Dolny and Annette Cassar, both Policy Officers at DG HOME, on the regulatory framework affecting AI use in public sector work.
- Challenges and Opportunities: Perspectives from Colin van Noordt, Researcher on Algorithms and Cloud at the Netherlands Court of Audit, and Spyros Sarigiannidis, Head of Unit for Data, AI and Web at DG DIGIT, on how public sector institutions can benefit from AI while addressing potential hurdles.
- Solutions for compliance with the regulatory framework on AI: Presentations on new solutions focusing on compliance with the regulatory framework on AI, including the aspects of transparency and explainability will be delivered by experts from a wide range of industry leaders.
- Solutions tackling operational challenges: companies will also present AI solutions tackling operational challenges, including in the area of border management, and solutions for operationalisation of AI.
- Generative AI in Public Services: The final session will focus on how generative AI can support public services and its associated challenges and will feature a presentation from DG JRC delivered by Ignacio Sánchez, Scientific portfolio and project leader, as well as a series of presentations from solution providers.
- Networking: Opportunities to meet industry leaders, innovators, and experts from EU and national institutions.
A Space for Innovation and Collaboration
eu-LISA's Industry Roundtable encourages the exchange of ideas between industry and EU stakeholders, focusing on technology developments relevant to migration and home affairs. It offers industry participants the chance to showcase technologies and solutions that help address the needs of Member States.
About eu-LISA
eu-LISA currently manages key EU IT systems supporting security, migration, and justice. It operates Eurodac, SIS, and VIS, and is developing new systems like EES and ETIAS for better interoperability and identity management across the EU. The Agency's responsibilities also include justice-related systems such as ECRIS-TCN, e-CODEX, and the Collaboration Platform for Joint Investigation Teams (JITs).
